    El Quetzal is a small family-style school founded in 1998 by Glenda Lopez. She has over 19 years of experience teaching Spanish to foreigners. She founded El Quetzal Spanish School with the desire to not only follow her passion in teaching, but also to create a school that would fund scholarships for disadvantaged girls who could not afford to attend school. The teachers have at least 8 years of teaching experience. The school has its own materials and good books on Spanish literature.
    This school is well organized and focuses on teaching in a family atmosphere.

    Note that during the busier times (summer, Holy Week, end and beginning of the year) it is advisable to register at least one month in advance. By registering early, students help this small school to plan staff and host families before their arrival.

    El Quetzal wants to give you the opportunity to use your newly achieved Spanish skills in a variety of contexts like roundtable discussions, classes in Guatemalan cuisine, lectures on ecology, literature, history, multi-culturalism and globalization. We also provide trips to nearby Mayan markets, communal meals, salsa and meringue classes and more.
